Dixie County BOCC - EOC Previous

Project: Dixie County Emergency Operations Center
Location: Cross City, Florida
Owner: Dixie County Board of County Commissioners
Construction Cost: $1.2 Million
Project Size: 6,172 SF
Completion: May 2009
Description:

Prior to June 2009, Dixie Emergency Services operated out of an old Bellsouth building, with a part of their operation housed in a temporary trailer. In the wake of the devastating 2005 hurricane season, the Florida Division of Emergency Management and FEMA developed a grant program to help rural counties to upgrade / consolidate their emergency facilities into centralized Emergency Operations Centers. As part of the grant, facilities had to adhere to FEMA 361 standards, which are far more stringent than the State’s own EHPA requirements - Dixie EMS received their grant in 2008.

The envelope is comprised of Insulated Concrete Form (ICF), bar joists, lightweight insulating concrete roof and a masonry enclosure with steel grating to house the emergency generator and mechanical equipment. The interior features offices around the perimeter and a large central bull pen for use as a training area and command post during an emergency.
